Introduction About Noun & Types of Noun

Def : A word which is used as the name of person, place or thing. 

There are specific types of the nouns :

1. Proper Noun:
It is the name of particular person, place or thing. For Example: Geeta, Delhi, Asia etc. 
Some Important Points:
1.    First alphabet of a proper noun is always capital.
2.    Proper Noun takes singular helping verb whether it looks singular or plural.
For Example:  
1.1 History is an interesting subject.
1.2 Mathematics is a difficult subject.
2. Common Noun:
It is a name given in common to every person or thing of the same class or kind.
For Example : Girl , Boys, City , Town etc
3. Collective  Noun: 
It is the name of  number of persons or things taken together and spoken of as one whole.
For Example: Mob, Army , Committee etc.
Usually Collective noun is used as a singular. They can be used as plural if there is a division among the members of the collective noun or the members are being talked about.
For Example: The flock of geese spends most of its time in the pasture.
4. Material Noun: 
A noun which cannot be material noun in terms of number and units.
For Example: Gold, Silver etc 
Points to remember:
1.    Material Noun remains singular in form and takes singular helping verb.
2.    No article is used before material noun.
For Example:  Gold is a metal.
NOTE:  If material noun is placed in a structure "The+ Noun (material) + of + Noun" , then 'THE' article is used before the material noun. 
For Example: The gold of India is of good quality.
5. Abstract Noun: 
A word which is used to express emotion, condition, quality or can’t be expressed in terms of numbers.
For Example: Love.
Points to remember:
1.    Abstract noun remains singular in form and takes singular H.V.
2.    No article is used before the abstract noun.
Note: If abstract noun is placed in the following structure, then we use article 'THE'. "THE +Noun (abstract)+ of + Noun".
For Example: The love of mother is uncountable.
